In India, summers are really very hot. Especially in North India. High mercury levels in summers, drains us out. Temperature is scorching high and humidity is touching heights. We feel dehydrated and low in energy. In such climate, we tend to look at ways for cooling ourselves. Our body needs these cooling foods balancing our diets and keep us high on energy.
1. Coconut Water
The inexpensive coconut water has great cooling features and is full of health benefits. It is a super drink to have in Indian summers. It has essential minerals and sugars which keep the body hydrated. It also helps fight cancer and has anti-ageing properties too.
This vegetable has lots of fiber, can keep away constipation and costs very little. It is crunchy and helps you stay cool.
Watermelon is another fruit that keeps you cool. It has a high percentage (91%) of water. There are a lot of antioxidants present in it. Do not buy chopped slices, which may cause Diarrhea. Buy, cool it, slice and enjoy.
Curd is a wonderful and delicious coolant, which we can have in various forms like- lassi, chachh, or raita. We can also make cool deserts during summers. It is also available easily at homes. It keeps ulcers and allergies away.
Onions are always in our carts. They have wonderful cooling properties. We have it in salads, curries, chutneys, dips, and raitas. Have red onions especially because they are very rich in Quercetin, which is natural anti-allergen. It also saves from sunstroke.
